Generation Z, also known as GenZ, are people born between 1996 and 2010, so the current generation of teens and young adults.

We are global thinkers, because of the technology we grew up with and because of the tons of information that are at our fingertips on a daily basis. We are aware of social issues, we are learners, we are activists. Research shows that young people today are more aware than ever before of what is going on in the world. This generation is committed to having an impact on our world and changing it for the better and as Beth Reekles, a 19 year old YA author, said, “We’re not a ‘me’ generation. We are the ‘we’ generation.”.

Still, it is nothing new, that we are, sadly, leading when it comes to mental health issues. According to the Mental Health Foundation, one in 10 children and young people in the UK are affected by mental health problems and the majority of these people will carry those anxieties and issues with them into adulthood. So from unhappy teens, all we get are unhappy adults.

We are not as happy as we could be, and this is concerning.

So, what do we have here? On one hand we have a brilliant, talented, creative and driven generation of do-ers, and on the other hand, a real problem, a necessity which is emotional well-being and happiness, totally neglected.

So I thought: why on earth is nobody teaching the young people (which could, in my opinion, use it the most) , how to manage their emotions, how to stand tall, how to make the best out of their lives, how not to be afraid? I know, right? After all, teenagers are the adults of tomorrow, the future CEOs, the next generation of talented and creative leaders, so we might as well invest in their emotional well-being.

And let’s face it. Who else will know what the needs, the struggles and the aspirations of young people are, better than a teenager itself?

So here I am, decided on the fact that I want to help the current Gen Z on their path to developing themselves emotionally. This is for them. For us. We are not as happy as we could be, and this is concerning, so we need this now.

Shout it from the rooftops!
